“Changing Lives Through Service”

The Exchange Club of Durham meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at the Hilton Garden Inn at 2102 West Main Street, Durham, NC 27705 at 6 PM.
The club is affiliated with the National Exchange Club and works to make our surrounding community a better place to live and work through Youth Programs, Child Abuse Prevention, Americanism Projects, and Community Service.

“To Serve in Unity with Those Seeking Better Conditions, Better Understandings and Greater Opportunities for All”

We are gearing up, once again, to sell $5 raffle tickets between now and December 14, 2015.  Please buy several tickets from one of our club members or contact one of our board members for more information.

In 2014, the raffle drawing was held on September 15.  The winner of the 50/50 drawing was Justin Bonaparte, an entrepreneur who lived in Henderson.  Justin received $555, which is 50% of the $1110 raised from the sale of raffle tickets.  The other half ($555) went to benefit Durham County residents through activities such as funding small gifts for temporary residents at the Pettigrew Rehabilitation Healthcare Center and other Community and Club Projects.

Please buy several tickets to increase your odds to be a “big time” winner” just like Justin Bonaparte was last year.

Please join us on the 4th Saturday of every month as we walk to “cleanup” West Club Boulevard from Hillandale Road to Ninth Street.  We meet at 8 AM and park on Georgia Avenue (on the north side of West Club) which is parallel and 1/4 block east of Hillandale Road.  This beautiful neighborhood is in the center of the Watts Hospital – Hillandale Local Historic District.  The people are very friendly and the homes, lawns and gardens are a joy to see as we walk along in our blue uniform shirts.  We find only a small amount of trash and our visit lasts no more than 2 hours.

Once each quarter, we visit the patients at the Kindred Transitional Pettigrew Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center to bring a bit of joy to the residents who are there.  We play Bingo with small gifts for winners of each game.  This time of friendship is very much appreciated by patients at Pettigrew.  Please let one of our officers know of your interest to participate with us in future activities at Pettigrew.

Recently, one of our members learned that several residents at the Pettigrew Center are very good chess players.  That understanding led that member to donate a chess set for use by residents at Pettigrew.  That gift is much appreciated by those residents of Pettigrew who really like to play chess.  Because the one chess set is used by a lot of residents, our club plans to donate a second chess set.

Future Events

Once again, our members will “ring the bell” in the Salvation Army “Red Kettle Campaign” which raises money to provide food baskets and toys at Christmas.  The Salvation Army also provides shelter, food, clothing and other essential services for those in need. Please “ring the bell” with us by contacting one of our officers.

Each year, members of the Exchange Club of Durham volunteer to serve at the Durham Exchange Club Industries annual Christmas Party to celebrate and recognize the achievement of all employees.  Durham Exchange Club Industries  is a private, nonprofit community-based vocational rehabilitation program, serving adults with disabilities in Durham, North Carolina.  DECI was founded in 1966 by the Durham Exchange Club as a sheltered workshop (www.deci.org).
